Economy
Value
I don't think you'll find another hot hatch of this standard near the money
Costs
So far, so good. I "downgraded" from a big turbo car and am loving the average 36mpg and 45mpg on long, gentle runs. Mine's just passed the 3-year mark and has only needed routine servicing and tyres.

On the road
Driving
Absolutely outstanding driving machine
Performance
Is there a faster small car? Has an excellent spread of torque. Subtler and closer to normal "sporty" models in looks than the 16V or Williams of old (both of which i've owned), so i'm always surprising the less educated drivers.

Living with it
Reliability
Spot on for me after 3 years. Some others (which I suspect have had less sympathetic lives), have had niggles like the "4k rattle" exhaust centre section, but the warranty should have taken care of this.
Image
It's very well respected out on the road, but the 172/ 182 is more common than the 16V/ Willy of old and are visually closer to the more basic models than the oldies.
Comfort
Balances comfort very well with the sporting package - in the best French hot hatch tradition.

Security and Service
Security
Mine was an import, but is fitted with a Cat 1 alarm. Seems pretty good - certainly a lot better than the Mk1 16V/ Williams in this area.
Service
Servicing now from a trusted independent (as I recommend you do after 3 years) - but Renault have always been good for me otherwise - especially parts for my old 16V and Williams.
