As we’ve come to expect from any Renault, there is, of course, a raft of driver assistance and safety systems tacked onto the back of the standard equipment list.

Applied across the line-up, Renault’s driver assistance systems include an Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition with Over-speed prevention, Hill Start Assist, a rear parking camera, front and rear parking sensors and an electrochromatic rear mirror.

Standard safety features include ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, ESC with traction and understeer control, cruise control, speed limiter, six airbags, seatbelts with load limiters and pretensioners at the front, side impact protection bars and Isofix child seat-mounting points to the two outer rear seats.

If you can think of anything else you probably don’t need it. Unsurprisingly the Koleos scored a full five-star rating when it was crash-tested by the experts at Euro NCAP in 2017.

The Renault Koleos is a practical car for four average adults, and five if the rear seat occupants are smaller in size. Of special note are the heated and cooled front cupholders, while in the rear they’re hidden in the central armrest between the two back seats. You get a good-sized 11-litre glovebox and a seven-litre storage box in between the two front seats.

We found the doors open wide too – 70 degrees and 77 degrees at front and rear respectively – which will make loading larger items like child seats nice and simple.

The Renault Koleos isn’t the most difficult car in the world to park, despite its large SUV footprint.

That’s because there is a range of systems on board to help out, including parking sensors and a rear-view camera to better visualise the objects around the car. On top of that there’s a handsfree parking system to let the car do all the hard work.

The large boot in the Renault Koleos can be extended dramatically by folding down the rear seats, which liberates van-like levels of extra room. Said seats are folded using one-touch buttons in the boot.

A removable floor in the luggage area sits at the same height as the relatively low loading lip, meaning the floor is totally flat to make loading larger items easier.
