-
Economy
Value
Hard to beat in its class for value and equipment levels.
Costs
Huge tyres expensive and unique to Laguna II. Servicing intervals impressive.
-
On the road
Driving
Steering could be more positive, suspension a little soft, best for motorways!
Performance
Average performance from the 1.8 petrol, needs to be worked hard, power produced at relatively high RPM.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Had lots of issues from seized brakes to engine refusing to start. Renault should have put the money from developing the Vel Satis (now discontinued) into making the Laguna II more reliable.
Image
One of the best looking cars on the road, gets admiring glances everywhere, this makes up for the questionable build quality and relaibility. Looks much more expensive than it is.
Comfort
A very quiet and comfy car. Build quality could be better, though. The dashboard is beginning to creak and crack now at 20,000 miles. Front window demister air outlet is tiny and is a real problem in the winter as it's inadequate.

Security and Service
Security
High levels of security. Thatcham Cat 1 alarm standard, deadlocks and auto locking an advantage over rivals.
Service
Main dealers simply want to sell you the car and not fix problems. Renault seriously need to look at their dealers, especially the Dixon franchises.

Problems and Ownership

Other
Power steering pump failure, rear callipers seizing, full ABS failure, tyre pressure monitor failure.
