Renault Laguna Hatchback (2001-2007) running costs and reliability

Fuel economy
You’ll get reasonable fuel economy from both petrol and diesel units – though V6s are thirstier. Despite the fact that parts and servicing tend to be more pricey than rivals, there are long intervals between major services. Insurance groups range from 7-15 and Laguna’s low CO2 emissions make this is a good company car option.
Laguna scores quite well on the eco front. With an average of 184 g/km CO2 across the range, its emissions are quite low for a medium-sized hatchback. However, it’s worth noting that the line up has a high number of diesel models, bringing the average down and giving buyers more choices of low-emission versions. Diesels typically produce less CO2 than petrol engines with similar power outputs.
The range is also fairly economical, averaging 39 mpg.
Electrics may leave you stranded if they fail – and although the Laguna’s interior doesn’t have the durability or quality finish of rivals, this was improved in 2005. There have been reports of onboard engine electronics failures, corroded brake discs, fuel leaks, unexplained acceleration surges and erratic losses of power, keyless entry card errors, faulty tyre pressure sensors, air conditioning faults and defective trip computers.
Reliability is not this cars strong point although dealers seem well rehearsed in being able to resolve any issues that arise.
