Renault Megane Coupe 1.6e 2d (1996/N) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Paid over the odds because I bought from a dealer but I still think its a great car for the money, especially style-wise.
Costs
£20 petrol gets me just over 200 miles. I use a private mechanic so costs are ok unless something major goes wrong. Make sure to check for timing belt change close to 60k, and electrics are annoying to repair as they constantly fail on mine.

Driving
Handling usually pretty good on decent tyres but can sometimes feel sloppy.
Performance
My car has a mind of its own. Sometimes it feels very racy, other times very sluggish. Cruises well at 50mph. Accelerates very well over 3,000 rpm.

Living with it
Reliability
Idle control valve went, window electrics constantly breaking. Otherwise good runner, engine running incredibly clean for 8 year old car.
Image
Still looks good today. Mine has superb bodywork condition and interior. Make sure to get one with good paintwork, especially wheelarches, which are prone to rust if not maintained. I definitely think older style looks better than facelift.
Comfort
Seats are well formed and comfy. Decent driving position and I am over 6ft.
