Renault Megane Coupe 16V 2d (1997/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
I puchaced this car in July 03 for £4200 with 56000 miles on the clock, full sevice history, with every part of the car in as new condition. This car would have cost £16450 new, so as a second-hand buy is excellent value for money.
Costs
Servicing costs high at main dealers (£180 for a minor service (oil change) is a bit much). Parts though are relitively inexpensive. Insurance costs are very good for this car at insurance group 13.

On the road
Driving
Exellent driving position. The controls are direct, so you can really feel what the car is doing.
Performance
The 2l 16v engine is a cracker. It started life in the Clio Williams and was updated for the megane with disc brakes all round, stiffned spings, front strut brace as standed; its an exellent performance package.

Living with it
Reliability
I've had only one problem so far - it only happened once, but from starting from cold the cooling fan kicked in and the engine refused to start, but 10mins later the problem disappeared.
Image
The 16v Coupe is a stylish car with 16" alloy wheels, front and rear spoilers and stainless steel tail pipe it look fresh and new still looks best in yellow though.
Comfort
For the size of car, the Megane's cabin is small but the seats are suportive and there's plenty of legroom in the front as long as you don't use the rear seats.

This model has an engine immobliser and a Thatcham 1 alarm system a standard, but the door locks are a little weak.
