Renault Megane Hatchback (2002 - 2006) 1.6 VVT Dynamique 5d Owner Review

We have had numerous electrical problems eg locking system, electric windows. Currently only one of the windows works. The tailgate lock has just started working again after about a month. (Water in the lock) We've had to fix the brakes (more than once) and also replace the clutch. I always park in gear because the handbrake just "let's go", randomly. I think the electrical system was designed by a committee, after a boozy 3-hour lunch. Most of the problems are probably caused by water getting into the electrics. The car was clearly designed to make it as difficult as possible to work on. Example: you need to remove the front of the car to replace some of the bulbs. Not ideal, but a nice little earner for the Renault dealer. Or get Halfords to do it. We had problems with the VVT system. Very expensive to fix. I didn't bother. However, the car is good to drive, I've done Teesside to South Wales and back in a day, several times. (600 miles+) Never missed a beat. The styling is a Marmite thing. I like it.
