Summary
What does this car say about you?
No idea, probably that I'm a mug for buying french but have been lucky to avoid the "common" problems.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Love the look and comfort but know how much of a pain it has been and how expensive it has been to fix.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Not this particular spec, but I would buy another Megane (post-facelift at earliest) with higher spec. They're lovely cars if you take away the mechanical gremlins. Most of these were fixed after the facelift in '06.
What are you likely to buy next?
Skoda Octavia vRS

Thought so at the time, but I only got a piddly one month warranty and surprise surprise, I had problems just after the warranty ran out.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Over a grand cheaper than the Astra I had gone to view and a better driving position
What was the dealer like?
Bunch of crooks, will not be doing business with them again.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Very smooth ride on all road surfaces. Responsive throttle for a diesel, slight turbo lag at low revs. Eats up the motorway with ease and will take some of the steeper hills in 5th gear. Medium size makes it managable around town.
What's it like to park?
Fairly easy to park once you get used to the 'ass'.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
There's a leak in the Air Con system, found this out when had to re-gas the A/C a month after purchase, it was completely empty. Replaced two starter motors before realising Flywheel was ruined, cost about £850-900 in total repairs. Tracking was well out, destroyed front near-side tyre, easily sorted by another £100ish for new front tyres and tracking to be done. Track rod arms went, both replaced. Car is now making a loud bang occassionaly under hard acceleration/braking. Also making a loud bang when steering on full lock and moving slowly.
What's most practical about your car?
Space for 4 adults/2 adults + 3 children plus a dog. Good fuel economy, especially on motorway journeys. Comfortable seats.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Auto-lights and Keycard/push button start. Sadly lacking on extra options.
