Renault Scenic (2009 - 2016) 1.6 VVT Dynamique 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
Before I bought it, a lot of people said it's French and it's bound to go wrong, but stupidly I didn't believe them. However, lets start with the good points:
1. Loads of room 2. Seats can be removed so great for tip runs. 3. Good spec (Most things like bluetooth don't work though). 4. Can't think of anymore.
My last car was a 54 plate 1.8 Mondeo petrol and I had it for 7 years and I did 60k miles in it. It only let me down once and needed a new alternator. I've had the scenic for three years and It's broken down 3 times. The problems:
1. 1.6vvt petrol slow and gear ratios short. Annoying but I can cope. 2. Numerous problems. This started with water getting inside the car. water got into the heater matrix luckily, it all still worked once dried out. Make sure no debris gets stuck in the drains near windscreen. 3. Leaky clutch slave cylinder, cost £500 for new clutch. 4. Radio failed and drained battery. Had to remove radio as it was on constantly and couldn't be turned off. Installed aftermarket radio but now I've lost bluetooth. 5. Alternator failed, cost £425 to fix. 6. Brakes expensive to replace, that cost £500 as well.
Feels fragile and like it could break any minute. Do yourself a favour and don't keep it for long. Get rid after 6 years or so otherwise it could start falling apart. Better still, opt for something else. I'm stuck as I'm still paying it off. I look after my cars and I get them serviced at the correct intervals as I like to keep them for as long as possible but I can't wait to be rid of this piece of [expletive].
