Renault Zoe Hatchback i Iconic (DC rapid charging) R110 ZE 50 auto 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I'm pleased with it but I confess to having hesitated before buying from this maker given their appalling record for poor reliability and build quality. I noted that even this latest vastly improved version had caused issues with some other owners of whom I'd read prior to purchase. What 'comforted' me in this connection was the confidence Renault paced in their products by increasing the warranty to five years in late 2019.That was the clincher for me.
I have to add that in a plethora of ways I was so utterly appalled by the 'standard' of the dealer with whom I placed my order that ultimately I cancelled and retrieved the deposit (they even messed up t h a t process). Such was my disenchantment with the outfit that I complained to Renault's UK Managing Director. He got a senior colleague to get in touch with me in the course of which, via financial inducement to compensate for the aggro caused, I eventually placed a new order with an alternative dealer making it clear that I expected far more attention to preparatory detail than I'd experienced wit the previous lot. Doubtless that declaration and the knowledge that I'd earlier involved the big guns helped ensure that this time round the car was presented to me on delivery day in A1 condition and my stipulated expectations fulfilled accordingly. As Mrs Malaprop didn't but might have said, 'I put my foot down with a firm hand!' I suggest you do the same with any dealer, whoever the manufacturer. Keep 'em on their toes and make them e a r n your custom. You're paying a hell of a lot of dosh and, that being so, are entitled to receive nothing less than one hundred per cent excellence from personnel and product alike.
How reliable do you find the car?
Like all cars it has minus points but these are far outweighed by its plus aspects chief of which are comfortable seats, good ride qquality (it shrugs off all but the worst potholes), excellent handling responses and transit quietness. Mercifully, too, with not the slightest hint of cabin squeaks, creaks, groans or rattles of any kind whatsoever. Niggle factors are few. That said, the satnav device and rear parking sensors irritate me considerably. The forner has clear enough mapping features but indistinct, way too small infographics on the top left of the screen; furthermore whilst the voice instructions are initially fine and unproblematical the secondary ones, when you get nearer your desired turn, suddenly become garbled and speeded up - grrrrrrrrrrr! What annoys me about the sensors is that they can be accidentally switched off. Alarming if you've made that mistake (c/o in my case a blameless front seat passenger playing around with the radio control system) and are 'innocently' relying on their operational assistance... A recipe for a prang in the making. What in the world is the purpose of providing this feature if it can be deactivated through no fault of one's own... ? Black mark Renault! One of the things that particularly attracted me to this vehicle was its design. The shape pleases the eye from every angle and I've never been able to say that of any of the numerous cars I've owned in the past (this being my first BEV). It's a tremendous tribute to the manufacturer that very little indeed has been changed about the Zoe's appearance since its UK introduction many years ago. In my opinion it looks as fresh today as ever it did, occupying exactly the same body shell now as it did at launch. I thought long and hard before opting for this make and model but for the most part I'm happy with my choice.About their car
