Rover 100 Hatchback 1.5 D Ascot SE 3d (1998/S) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Good value when new, still ok secondhand in right condition.
Costs
Good fuel economy (50+mpg), reliable engine has required little attention.
-
On the road
Driving
Agile handling, easy to manoeuvre, excellent visibility.
Performance
Ok for town and country, but lacks power for motorway driving.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Engine almost perfect, some problems with suspension, bodywork and electrics (see below).
Image
Styling not as crisp as the old Metro, and now looking decidedly dated.
Comfort
All controls rather heavy for such a small car, seats lack lateral support, good heating.
-
Security and Service
Security
Factory fitted alarm and immobiliser, but apparently these are no obstacle to determined thieves.
Service
Franchised dealers quite pricey, but quite a lot of work can be done by independent garages.
