Summary
What does this car say about you?
I'm a crafty bargain-hunter who doesn't settle for a hair-shirt.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Faintly bemused, I think: I'm a man in his prime and, let's face it, the Rover has all the kudos of a granny-wagon. But my partner finds it very comfortable and quiet.
Would you buy this car again and why?
If I was still poor when it wore out, then yes, definitely. But at some stage, once my finances are better, I'll probably get around to changing cars, if only because the Rover is thirsty compared to newer small cars, and I do a lot of miles.
What are you likely to buy next?
I would LOVE a new Vauxhall Ampera. Or even a plug-in Prius. But I'm not going into debt for one.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Independent
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£550
When did you buy the car?
September 2011
Did you get a good deal and why?
First time round (2003) I bought a 10-yr-old, dry garaged, one owner with 30k miles. This time (2011), it's 19-yr-old, one owner and 25k miles. The first Rover cost £1500, the second cost £550. A real bargain.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
I owned one from 2003-2007 and loved it; this time I needed cheap, reliable transport and had peanuts to spend. This was on ebay with 25k on the clock.
What was the dealer like?
Nice, noncommital.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Smooth, quiet and solid. Also surprisingly powerful. Some road noise on the motorway, but surprisingly little given the car's age and size.
What's it like to park?
Easy. I can see where both ends of the car are with no problem.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
The first one I had for 4 years / 63,000 miles, changed the rheostat on the blower fan, exhaust back section and the brake discs. Nothing else except servicing. Then the engine warning light came on intermittently, and like a fool I panicked and changed it.
What's most practical about your car?
The totally dependable and smooth Honda engine which gives peace of mind. and height-adjustable driver's seat.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Electric sunroof, I guess, and the release levers beside the driver's seat for the boot catch and the petrol filler flap. There aren't many gadgets by modern standards.
