Rover 200 Hatchback 220 GTi 3d (1992/K) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Inexpensive, yet fully loaded with goodies.
Costs
Poor fuel economy whether driven easy or hard. High insuarance costs.
-
On the road
Driving
Drives superb. Corners like its on rails. Well balanced suspension, however ride is a little harsh on uneven roads.
Performance
Very quick off the mark - needs a 6th gear, however, as revs tend to be on the high side at motoway speeds.

Living with it
Reliability
Fair. Good starter that never lets me down, however poorly designed engine often develops silly problems.
Image
Used to look menacing, however looking a bit dated these days.
Comfort
Excellent seats give good support all round. Driver controls nicely positioned.

Security and Service
Security
I would say I am fortunate enough not to have ever had it broken into. Basically a small child with a lolly stick could open the locks - locks are for show purposes.
Service
Genuine Rover parts very expensive, labour pretty high.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Cam belt snapped, causing £1200 damage to engine - I seriously reccomend 35k miles between changes.
Other
Hatch hinge snapped - £150 for replacement hinges.
