Economy
Value
Compared to its rivals, this is a luxurious car for the price, yet still manages to lose money even at this age!
Costs
Good economy if driven lightly, but high insurance (group 9!) Routine servicing fairly cheap but has needed lots of repairs.

On the road
Driving
Smooth ride, light clutch and steering, rev-happy engine, all let down by sloppy body control when cornering.
Performance
102 bhp 1.4 engine destroys equivalent rivals (even today!). Needs to be revved to make decent progress though (fuel economy plummets). But still, 102bhp!

Living with it
Reliability
Disappointing. Has needed far too many replacement parts in a short time frame. Clutch wears quickly, and gearbox became faulty at only 48k miles.
Image
Quite smart back in 1995, but dated now. Looks sleek from the front, dumpy from the rear. Nice interior helps, but its a grandad's car really. Fit some alloy wheels with wider tyres to lift appearance (and improve grip) considerably.
Comfort
The cars strongest point. Plush trim and comfy seats, smooth ride, quiet engine, clutch foot rest etc. A nice car to ride in, just don't push it through the corners. Low gearing spoils high speed cruising ability.

Security and Service
Security
Perimetric and ultrasonic alarm plus immobiliser. Better than most rivals of this era. Unlikely to attract unwanted attention.
Service
Franchise Rover dealer (Holden of Norwich) offer ok service at ok prices, but nothing above ordinary.
