Rover 400 Saloon 416 Si 4d (1994/L) Owner Review

Economy
Value
A real bargain for the drive quality. I was told to avoid high mileage unless it has FSH.
Costs
Not bad fuel costs. Serviceable parts are cheap i.e. tyres, oil filter and air filter. Be wary of engine parts 'cos, like I said, it's basically a Honda. Expect Honda prices.

On the road
Driving
Very smooth. Honda engine helps. Same engine used in the Honda Civic. 'Nuff Said.
Performance
Surprising. First and third gears offer the most fun, especially after 4000rpm. Still plenty of pull in 5th at 70 too, which is nice.

Living with it
Reliability
Never had a major problem.
Image
It's a Rover saloon. Honda engine, 118bhp, 16v, 0-60 in 10secs... but it's a Rover. I think it depends on your age. Looks quite nice lowered.
Comfort
I have driven this car for a non-stop 6 hour period on a long journey and found it to be an extremely comfy car, even though I have bad knee joints and back. I cannot stress enough how comfy this car is to drive.

Security and Service
Security
It has alarm/immobiliser, but if you like your car it's always best to get something extra, steering lock bar for example. State of a nation unfortunatly.
Service
Very helpful with any questions.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Solenoid on starter motor decided to shut up shop. Easily replaced, but motor factor price was silly - get a second hand one from scrap yard for around a fiver.
Other
Just a niggly problem that the buzzer to tell you that the lights have been left on when you open the dor no longer works. Not major, but I have to fix it, cos I'm a bugger for leaving lights on.
