Rover 400 Saloon 416i 4d (1997/R) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Quite a lot of car for the money.
Costs
Average for fuel, but dealer parts can be expensive.
-
On the road
Driving
Really extremely stable if driven within its limits.
Performance
Can be driven hard, then quite good but sluggish in lower gears.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Starter motor noisy and breaking down - with only genuine 28,500 miles!
Image
Preferable to Ford/Vauxhall anyway! Very smart car!
Comfort
Quite good for front seats, even in base model, but roller grip for seat adjustment is a pig!
-
Security and Service
Security
Lots of noise/flashing bits - hasn't been pinched yet.
Service
I use local garage service which I trust.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Uneven behaviour in lower revs - not diagnosed yet. Also, starter motor 'going' (at 28500 miles).
Other
So far - a very good overall buy 1.
