Rover 400 Saloon 1996-
  • Economy

    Costs

    2 out of 5 2.0

Servicing expensive. Had to replace brakes and disks due to faulty brakes.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Nice to drive on motorways and open roads, feels heavy in town and has the turning circle of an LGV.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Sluggish from standing, but quick once the turbo kicks in. Economy ok.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    3 out of 5 3.0

Only not started once(on an extremely cold snowy morning), no faults found and has always started first time since.

    Image

    2 out of 5 2.0

Everyone expects to see a 55 year old driving.

    Comfort

    3 out of 5 3.0

Ok on short journeys, but gets a bit uncomfortable on long trips.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    4 out of 5 4.0

Alarm and immobiliser. Key fob can be a bit sensitive at close range so have to be careful when leaving the car until you get out of range.

    Service

    3 out of 5 3.0

Not the greatest value for money on servicing costs, willing enough to check out problems when booking through customer service helpline, but my local dealer's mechanics are either unbelievably quick or not very thorough. Same problems have re-appeared.
