Economy
Value
Bought mine in Jan 2001 for £5,500 from a dealer (ArnoldClark Glasgow), pretty good values secondhand.
Costs
In three and a half years with me nothing has ever gone seriously wrong, and I've put 135,000 miles on it.

On the road
Driving
The drive is ok, if a little wooden, and it will get you out of situations if need be. Ok on the motorway, but bum will get sore after 100m or so. (Put some wider, low profile alloys on it, it will help the handling alot)
Performance
Excellent for a diesel, 10.2 secs to 62MPH.

Living with it
Reliability
Will keep on going till the wheels fall off.
Image
Old Chap, slight westerly breeze with sunny intervals, prolonged heavy showers in the south. Middle of the road. Egg's sunny side up please. Daily mail. Coronation streets on tonight. Solihull and a salesman. That type of image comes to mind.....
Comfort
Not bad, not brilliant though either.

Security and Service
Security
Bad. Windows can be pushed down easily, alarm can be disconected in a few mins, and the immobilizer can be knocked out in a few mins. Lost my Keys once in Manchester, had to break in, and it is supprisingly easy.
Service
Never needed to see them to be honest, never go to a dealers for a service though, cos all they'll do is rip you off. Go to a local man garage, or similar, found there usually the best ones to trust.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Good strong engine, the 2.0TD'S seem bullit proof. Never get a car with a K-Series engine, you'll be asking for trouble. Also the 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines are'nt that good at all, very sluggish.
Other
Try and avoid any 400 or Rover at all once there over 6 years old, never keep them past 8YO, apart from that rule of thumb you cant go wrong.
Ownership
Did you buy the car new?
Used
Would you buy the same model again?
