Rover 400 Saloon 420 SLDi 4d (1996/N) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Plummeting depreciation rates for all Rovers means you can always pick up a bargain.
Costs
Main dealer service charges can be expensive.

On the road
Driving
Good in a straight line, but don't expect too much when cornering - this is a heavy car and the suspension is not really up to the job.
Performance
Overtaking at motorway speeds results in a surprising turn of speed, but town driving can be hard work. Expect to be beaten at the lights by granny in her mobility car - it's an old engine and it shows

Living with it
Reliability
Mechanicaly sound, but poor build quality lets the rest down. I have had ABS, Airbag and electric window failures.

Comfort
Like sitting in your favourite armchair.

Security and Service
Security
What do you expect? It's a Rover - even without an alarm system, who's going to touch it?
Service
The level of service has been very good, but at a price.
