Rover 45 Hatchback (2000 - 2004) 2.0 TD iXL 5d Owner Review

In their own words
I purchased the car in May 2014 to replace my aging Ford Escort 1.4. Despite the cars once being competitors, the Rover was a significant improvement in every way (with the possible exception of rear seat room). The car was 14 years old when I bought it and had worn its years well, with only minor signs of the wear on some of its major controls (steering wheel etc) and maybe some scuffs associated with age, but with no rust or major wear the car was still very presentable. The L series has a reputation for solidity, and mine was no exception (just be mindful that cam belts have been changed at the appropriate age/mileage). It also never did less than 48mpg and whilst slow from a stand still, it had brisk performance in gear (3rd/4th) allowing easy overtaking when required. The interior was nicely appointed (if a little dated) and felt solidily put together with comfortable seats, lots of space in the front and a firm but forgiving rid however rear leg and headroom was poor. The car was surprisingly fun to drive (despite its granddad image), with good levels of grip and surprisingly little body roll. Everything worked as it should (including the A/C) and the only significant problem was a loose connector under the driver's seat causing an occasional SRS warning light, easily remedied by reseating the connector. Overall a pleasure to own and a lot of car for £1000, I would definitely have another one.
