Rover 600 620 SLDi 4d (SR) (1995/N) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Seems to hold it's value better than most of the other Rovers of this age.
Costs
Very economical (about 50mpg), but Rover spares (such as the thermostat) can be expensive.

On the road
Driving
Generally very nice to drive, but a little awkward reversing as you can't see where the boot ends.
Performance
Doesn't feel very fast, but still no slouch. Quite good grip around bends at speed.

Living with it
Reliability
Oh dear. Diff bearings fell out at 171000 miles and chewed up the inside of the gearbox, thermostat failed open and there is a hole rusted through on the passenger door. My older 418SLD was less trouble.
Image
One of the best looking Rovers of it's time and still pretty by modern standards.
Comfort
Not enough rear legroom and I find the driver's seat too low and reclined - later models were adjustable, but mine isn't so I got backache the first time I went for a long drive in it!

Security and Service
Security
Combination of alarm, immobiliser and Rover badge should put most thieves off. ABS works well though I've yet to test the airbag.
Service
Rover no longer exist so don't expect any backup from them.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Probably the best part of the car - 50+mpg, quiet, incredibly smooth (even compared to the new Mondeo TDCi engines) and always starts straight away no matter what. Does take ages to warm up though.
Other
I think the best things on this car are the excellent engine and Rover's styling, other than there's not much to recommend
