    Value

    5 out of 5 5.0

Purchased mine 4 months ago for £3,495 with 38k miles from a non-Rover dealer in Guildford. The price from rover is £2k-3k more.

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Quite steep on insurance, but that was to be expected. Fuel consumption gives good return considering the type of car it is. Average around 31mpg. Heavy on tyres.

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

Easy to drive, though has all the poise of a rice pudding when faced with a tight bend.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Excellent in standard form. Fappin fantastic with a re-mapped ECU and small tweak to boost pressure.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    3 out of 5 3.0

Cracked cylinder head and blown head gasket. Well it was looked after by SMC in Slough, so that probably explains the reason why the incorrect coolant mix and level was used. Stone went through the rad.

    Image

    3 out of 5 3.0

Does have a bit of a middle-aged image, though gaining respect in younger circles - I feel more so in Ti form than any other, though.

    Comfort

    4 out of 5 4.0

Tight in the back but hey, I don't sit there. Front seats are comfortable, though a little more lumbar support wouldn't go a miss. Nice driving position and good with A/C and S/roof.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

Never been tested, so wouldn't like to say.

    Service

    1 out of 5 1.0

ROVER SMC in Slough is appalling. Go to Motobuild in Hounslow or Rover in Kingston, as they know what they are doing.

Trim rattles are not uncommon, though usually fixed with a can of silicone spray
