Lots of car for the price.

Very good for a car in this class. Averages 40 mpg so forget diesels. Tyres, brakes etc wear very well. Best tyres are Goodyear Touring or NCT 3.

Very good, does everything well. Brakes need a firm prod at times, and suspension can clonk on the twisty bits or when fully laden.

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Good low end grunt - really goes from 3500 rpm to 5000 rpm; sounds rough at the top end but gives its best from 2000 to 3750 rpm.

    Reliability

All well on all previous cars owned. This one at 48k has a noisy gearbox bearing. Every one I"ve owned has leaked oil from the head from 30k. Always keep oil topped up, as they do use it.

Down to personal taste really. No crowd stopper but still looks good enough - at least it has a bit of character.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Covers 750+ miles some days, and no complaints. Good driving position with everything central. Good rear leg room, copes wells with five. Hatch better than saloon, as hinges intrude into boot space.

    Luckily Fords get nicked first.

    Service

    5 out of 5 5.0

I always buy from my local garage Miers Motor Co (01458 442425). They are ex-Rover and give a first class service. It's down to the dealer in the end.

Make sure it's serviced properly, use good oil, and change it at least every 12k.
