Rover Metro 1990-
  • Economy

    Value

    4 out of 5 4.0

Bought for 650 pounds with only 41,000 miles on the clock after 10 years. Insurance group not the lowest for a 1.1 (group 5).

    Costs

    3 out of 5 3.0

Just bought a new complete standard system for £300. Check it doesn't leak and the cat works.

  • On the road

    Driving

    4 out of 5 4.0

The ride can be a bit bouncy on unmade roads, corners are taken with a small amount of body roll. Gives more confidence around corners than most other small cars of the period. Brakes need regular attention to keep them working well.

    Performance

    5 out of 5 5.0

Sluggish when cold, but wind it up when it's warm and it will fly. Acceleration at motorway speeds is not a problem.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    5 out of 5 5.0

Only the original 10 year old battery has let me down so far.

    Image

    2 out of 5 2.0

Completely standard car is a bit old fashioned, but when the car goes as well as it does who cares? There are very few after market add ons made for the Metro.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Fornt seats straight out of the Rover 800, so very supportive and comfortable. NO rear legroom for anyone more than small children.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    3 out of 5 3.0

Mine's got central locking that works the 2 doors and the boot. Alarm has been disconnected in the past.

    Service

    1 out of 5 1.0

Haven't ever dealt with Rover dealers.

  • Problems and Ownership

    Problems

    Engine

Worn distributor and rotor arm needed changing before their service shedule, but is a 10 min job to fix.
