Rover Metro 1.4 16V GTa 3d (1992/J) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Paid little for it, still going 16 months on with small amount spent.
Costs
Tenner a week fuel. Insurance a tad high, but what do you expect with such a pokey little engine?
-
On the road
Driving
Point and squirt with a Nova-driver surprising turn of pace.
Performance
No sportscar, but with your backside an inch off the ground, it feels like 200mph round town.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Fuel pump failed just before leaving for a crucial meeting. Multi-function ECU a bit intermittent, but a piece of wire in the fuse box sorts it out until it resets itself.
Image
Yeah right, image, er it's a Metro.
Comfort
Good for a small car, average overall.

Security and Service
Security
Dodgy door locks, so previous owner fitted a Toad alarm/immobiliser - sensible.
Service
Have never used main dealer as spares from the scrapyard cost peanuts, so why pay more?

Problems and Ownership

Engine
Multi-function ECU fails every now and then, but run it with fuel pump on permanent pump (hotwired through fusebox) for a few days and it resets itself.

Fuel pump failed is all - £200 to replace at independent mechanics.
