Summary
What does this car say about you?
I think it said i was a bit of a boy racer back then.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
My dad thought it was a bit of a strange purchase by me. It looked fairly sporty. Friends were always shocked how quick it was, point to point, on country lanes. It was your friend, drove like a go-kart in corners. My best mate bought it off me and kept it years and it was reliable for him too.
Would you buy this car again and why?
No, not that small again. And Rover are long since gone.
What are you likely to buy next?
Astra, Cee'd, Focus?

No

£5,600
When did you buy the car?
January 1997
Did you get a good deal and why?
Deal was ok, trade-in was ok, dealer replaced the sunroof as part of the deal.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
The GTa looked sporty, it had big fat tyres, 5-speed gearbox, and i wanted a hot hatch type car, but without the bigger costs of a full fledged GTi etc.
What was the dealer like?
Dealer was ok, only 2 miles from my house.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
It was a little pocket rocket. People used to underestimate it. It kept up with a Cosworth Mercedes driven by a friend, on a cross country run (20 miles) at night. it had a great turn of speed between 40 and 70 and tons of grip in corners. good fun car. Not much legroom for driver though if your 6-foot.
What's it like to park?
It was a small car, but the steering was very heavy and it didnt have much lock. so not the best to park.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
It was very reliable. If the keyfob alarm battery went, you had to turn the alarm off under the bonnet while it was going off. But the alarm was aftermarket fitment.
What's most practical about your car?
It was fairly cheap to run.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
The sunroof.
