Rover Mini Saloon City 2d (1988/E) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Inherit a Mini - it's much better than paying for one!
Costs
Some parts are pricey - find a good supplier and stick with them

On the road
Driving
Enormous fun. Stick it into a corner and I defy you to come out the other side without a grin on your face
Performance
Hahaha! Doesn't matter how underpowered the engine is - it weighs nothing and you really don't have to brake for the corners much!
-
Living with it
Reliability
Yes. You either love it or you hate it. Me, I love it - so the fact that it breaks down on a regular basis is all part of the charm.
Image
It's a Mini! Everyone loves them - I get waved out a junctions, thumbs up from other drivers, waved at by kids, etc. This is the best thing about being a Mini driver. That and the cornering (did I mention the cornering?)
Comfort
It's a Mini. Funny driving position, no headroom. Lower the steering column, fit some aftermarket seats, change the standard shocks and you'll get something that's almost comfortable. Just don't do any long motorway journeys.

Security and Service
Security
What security? I can open the bonnet, start the engine and get into the car without a key. Get a crooklock. Or a removable steering wheel.
Service
I don't think Rover even remember the Mini.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Everything. But they're so easy to work on or swap out it doesn't matter!
Other
Brakes can be unsettling, but I don't use them that much
Ownership
Did you buy the car new?
Used
Would you buy the same model again?
Yes
Did you buy from the same manufacturer again?
No
