Saab 9-3 Convertible 2.0t SE (154bhp) 2d (1998/S) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
A lot of car for the money.
Costs
Long service intervals, but expensive parts.
-
On the road
Driving
More 'cruiser' than sportscar. Great ride, if a little crashy over bumps.
Performance
Superb on motorways. Plenty of torque when you need it. Engine eerily smooth.
-
Living with it
Reliability
For a car like this, pathetic. Threw a crankshaft at a mere 77,000 miles (out of warranty - £2200 engine rebuild); climate control system and roof mechanism have needed attention.
Image
Classy and understated.
Comfort
Superb seats and cabin - comfortable, even after driving all day. Not too windy in the front when roof is down either.
-
Security and Service
Security
Excellent - seemingly impossible to get into. Deadlocks, immobiliser, alarm, etc, etc.
Service
Grange Saab unhelpful/downright lazy when crankshaft went. Car left in appalling state. Will not be using them again.
