-
Economy
Value
Not much more than VWs for better image.
Costs
Costly servicing. Diesel gives 50mpg on a run, however. Front tyres wear frighteningly quickly.
-
On the road
Driving
Vague steering, noisy and lumpy around town; better on the motorway.
Performance
Well-judged turbo gives good pull outside town, but too high-geared for city/school run.

Living with it
Reliability
Computer suggests phantom faults.
Image
Classic looks don't seem to date, but newer competitors now have a fresher edge. Looks great in the brochure. Interior a bit cheap in certain areas.
Comfort
Seats need more side support. Low ceiling in rear. Great dashboard for night driving.

Security
Thatcham 1 keeps insurers happy.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
2.2 diesel has good torque, but is noisy at lower revs.
Other
Interior has lots of hard plastic, which marks easily. Carpets cheap and nasty compared to Volvos.
