Summary
What does this car say about you?
I wanted a luxurious car with a bit of sportiness thrown in (and BMW has a ridiculous waiting list of six months!).
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
My old man loves it. At the time Saab was a premium brand to his generation. The girlfriend thinks it's a bit of a 'tank' but she has to admit it looks petty damn good. Generally it's perceived well.
Would you buy this car again and why?
No, it's a car that's trying to be something that it's really not. It's a solid, reliable, comfortable car but it isn't a thrilling drive, the handling is poor for a top of the range trim. If you want a comfortable car that looks great - buy it. If you want something that gives you an exhilarating drive - don't.
What are you likely to buy next?
BMW 330d M Sport. Ze Germans always win in the end.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchised
Did you buy this car new?
Yes
What price did you pay?
£0
When did you buy the car?
October 2010
Did you get a good deal and why?
Going rate really but for metallic paint and a full tank of diesel thrown in. Very good standard spec on the Aero.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
They had it in stock! Good looks, 57mpg. Low emissions made it a great choice for a company car.
What was the dealer like?
Nice chap, not pushy at all which I liked a lot. Almost too standoffish though.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Disappointing. It's the Aero trim which apparently has sports suspension and is meant to be a generally sporty drive. It's not that at all. The steering is dull and so is the ride. It's a brilliant motorway cruiser, very comfy. Excellent car for a 50+ year old but don't expect 'the ride of your life'.
What's it like to park?
Terrible. The turning circle is atrocious and the car is fairly long so what should be a one second job often becomes a three-point manoeuvre. Visibility is decent enough though.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Almost three years of ownership and not a single thing has gone wrong. It's very reliable.
What's most practical about your car?
It's got a big boot which is very handy. Unfortunately the rear is a bit cramped, especially for the size of the car.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Heated seats are awesome - I'll never own a car without them. It's very much like air con - you won't go back! Full leather is nice as standard, the cup holder which jumps out is very cool.
