Saab 9-3 Saloon 2002-

  • Economy

    Value

    3 out of 5 3.0

Not bad, especially with full leather as standard. Again can't match a 3 series for residuals, so factor that in.

    Costs

    4 out of 5 4.0

Servicing interval is long, and economy ok for a 2.0 turbo.

  • On the road

    Driving

    3 out of 5 3.0

This car can't get anywhere near a 3 series dynamically of course - the X-type is the closest competitor. The drive is smooth but not very precise or tied down, with plenty of wheel spin if you're not careful (still good overall though and I enjoy it).

    Performance

    4 out of 5 4.0

Pleasantly swift rather than fast. No sports car but a very decent cruiser indeed.

  • Living with it

    Reliability

    4 out of 5 4.0

Mine's too new to tell, I don't think the car will last in the way that Saabs used to, and there is clear evidence of cost-cutting in the interior.

    Image

    4 out of 5 4.0

I think SAAB still has an enviable image. I like being seen in the car. I don't think the entry level cars look good though - I would only want the body kitted versions.

    Comfort

    5 out of 5 5.0

Great seats and reasonable ride, and a good climate control system. Speakers could be better.

  • Security and Service

    Security

    5 out of 5 5.0

SAAB majors in this area. Wish the ISOFIX bars were easier to get to.

    Service

    4 out of 5 4.0

    No issues yet.
