Fuel economy
A more stringent standard for fuel economy (WLTP) was introduced from September 2017, and this model was not required to undergo that test.
Its fuel economy measured under the previous test system was 27 - 44 mpg. However these figures are less likely to be achievable in real world driving and so should never be compared to another car's mpg which was measured under the newer, more realistic WLTP system.

As well as being priced to undercut its main rivals when new, servicing costs should also be a little lower than in a typical Audi, BMW or Jaguar dealership. The 9-5’s residual values forecasts are not particularly strong for this class, but if you’re paying less than an Audi or BMW for it when new it isn’t such a big deal.
The 9-5 is a polluting model. With an average of 215g/km CO2 across the line-up, its emissions are a touch high for an executive saloon. The range is not very frugal either, averaging 32 mpg.
Saabs have a reputation for being very reliable. With eight years of the 9-5 already under its belt, this version should not give any cause for concern. Recalls are very rare.
