Saab 900 Hatchback 2.0 Turbo 16V 3d (88) (1988/F) Owner Review

Economy
Value
I have had value for money here, a lot of speed and performance for little money.
Costs
Find a good specialist garage like DCA Saab and it does not cost the earth to run! Insurance need not be high if you look around at specialist sites like Saab owners club. Fuel can be expensive if you drive it hard all the time.

On the road
Driving
Brilliant! It takes being thrown around and pushed to it's limits with no effort. Great driving position and can be driven hard all the time as long as it is serviced regularly.
Performance
A STREET SLEEPER!!!! Being a Carlsson, it is very quick, raced many a GTI. Not quick off the start and Turbo lag off putting but once Turbo kicks in there is no stopping it.

Living with it
Reliability
I have owned mine for 7 years and have not been kind to it, it's been raced, thrown around and I have had no problems with it apart from service parts. But it needs regular servicing and checkups.
Image
I love it! Need to choose the right colour...I.e. black, gun metal grey, tinted windows, needs body kit otherwise can look very dated.
Comfort
Great seats, all gadgets in right place, ride can feel firm and bumpy because of the suspension.

Security and Service
Security
None, but with the key linked in with the gearbox, it makes it difficult to start.
Service
Hated Saab main dealer, too expensive and they don't really know the older cars as well as the new ones.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Rubber hoses!!!! These need to be checked as they perish easily other than that only servicing.
Other
Air hoses, both in engine and heating system....Easy to do yourself!
