Saab 900 Hatchback 2.0i 5d (1996/N) Owner Review
-
Economy
Value
Massive depreciation.
Costs
Parts aren't too expensive. You just need so many.
-
On the road
Driving
Wallows like a beached whale, understeers in wet, grounds on undulating roads.
Performance
Not too bad if you hammer it.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Worst car I've ever had. Electrical faults, huge apetite for exhausts, seized engine pulleys, hand brake needed welded back on, seized brakes.
Image
To the SAAB owner, it's a car made by an aircraft manufacter. To everyone else, it's an overpriced Vectra.
Comfort
Lovely comfortable chairs and settee, sorry front and back seats.

Security and Service
Security
Immobiliser as standard.
Service
Never went near a dealer.

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Seized pulleys, timing chain on the way out.
Other
Electrical faults. Have to fit new bulbs more often than refuelling. Those awful flaps underneath ground on every seed bump and are driving me mad.
