Saab 900 Hatchback 2.0i S Talladega 5d (1998/R) Owner Review

Economy
Value
A lot of car for the money.
Costs
Use an independent garage rather than a franchise.... my annual service is not too painful, and a seriously mega-big change-lots-under-the-bonnet cost me a shade over £300 - I had been expecting nearly double that!

On the road
Driving
Comfortable, firm suspension. Take those speed humps with care! Tad notchy gear selection. Goes like a dream on the motorway.
Performance
Depends what you drove beforehand, everything being relative and all that. Not as nippy as the little Mazda I previously had, but goes well uphill, pulls away nicely, and cruises beautifully on the motorway a shade faster than it ought to....

Living with it
Reliability
In three and a half years I've replaced a few tyres and a couple of bits of the exhaust. Not bad for my 70k miles worth of use!
Image
Perceived as more expensive to own/run than it actually is.
Comfort
Lovely. Drivers seat adjustable in all directions. Air con fab for those few days it's needed in this country. I had a cd changer fitted post-purchase to complete the full range of little luxuries one wants in a car.

Security and Service
Security
Came with central locking, that was all. I had a zapper (remote c/l), alarm and immobiliser fitted, just in case.
Service
I have always used an independent rather than franchised garage for servicing.
