In their own words
For a few years I’d been oddly drawn to the freetrack .. I liked its quirky styling and an opportunity arose to purchase a privately owned chrono yellow tdi version. Not exactly a true off-roader but similar height to my previous Subaru Forester, which helps if your tall.. Great driving position , and loads head room and rear passenger space .. Decent size boot and rear seats pretty much fold flat so enough room for the tip run..
Having owned various petrol cars which only did 16+ mpg , I’m fairly happy to get 44mpg on the motorway and 38mpg around town . The tdi is well suited to the motorway and will happily sit at 2000 revs whilst doing 70. With the 6 gears you do seem to change quick through 1-2 , but the freetrack has decent midrange pick up for any overtaking moves needed.. Feels surefooted in the corners with minimal bodyroll and good to know the 4x4 will kick in at the rearwheels when needed .. same Haldex system as vw 4motion ..
