SEAT Cordoba Saloon 1.4 SE 4d (1997/P) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Considering the increased cost over the 1.4 Ibiza when new, I can see how SEAT UK could justify it, but got a deal as car was pre-reg.
Costs
Servicing has been on the expensive side and deprieciation is quite bad, but aside from this it has been an inexpensive car to run.

On the road
Driving
For such a small engine, it will move well. Engine does need to be revved to get the best from it and then the eardrum bursting noise kicks in.
Performance
Again, rev it hard, about 3500rpm and above, and the perfomance is very good.

Living with it
Reliability
Car has never left me stranded, but dealer tells me I need new rear wheel bearngs at only 55,000 miles! Eats front brake pads and was very disappointed to have 2 water pumps fail in just over 3 years, but overall it has been very good.
Image
Looks better than sister VW Polo saloon, but still a bit slab-sided, but overall a good attempt. The dashboard has the finish of a 80 year old face! New Seat models are doing a good job of changing the image.
Comfort
Seats lack support on the sides and base, the front seats don't slide back far enough to get comfortable, apart from that good.

Security and Service
Security
The car is still there so I would say fine.
Service
The dealership that the car was bought from is useless. If you get a grunt from the staff when you walk in, you should consider yourself lucky. Other dealers in the area are even worse, when getting a 60,000-mile service quote, one dealer took a wild guess.
