Summary
What does this car say about you?
You're left-field (it's not the obvious choice when wanting a hot hatch) and style conscious.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
They liked it and were constantly intrigued by the never ending saga of engine problems it had.
Would you buy this car again and why?
No. Even though it was under warranty, the never ending problems with oil consumption and the fact it needed a whole new engine at 1 year old were a nightmare.
What are you likely to buy next?
Fiesta ST.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchised
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£0
When did you buy the car?
August 2012
Did you get a good deal and why?
Okay - I probably paid a bit too much.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
There was nothing else at the time with the same blend of performance, comfort and looks. I also wanted to try owning a car with the DSG gearbox.
What was the dealer like?
Okay.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Okay. In a straight line it was incredibly quick with the DSG doing the gears. Through the corners it wasn't bad, but the electronic differential would constantly cut in. It didn't have anywhere near as much involvement or feedback as other cars in the class and as such was pretty uninspiring to drive. You couldn't call it slow though!
What's it like to park?
Mostly easy - but the DSG gearbox would often make the car lurch on up-hill reversing.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Yes - it had excessive oil usage throughout my ownership. It required a whole replacement engine at 12 months old and the new engine also used far too much oil (about 1l a month). It was always in and out of the dealership for tests.
What's most practical about your car?
Not a fantastically practical car. While the coupe bodyshape looks cool, it restricts the rear passenger headroom. The boot was a decent size though. The mobile phone cubby in the dash was a well-thought out addition.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
The DSG gearbox is fun! Bluetooth was also useful.
