SEAT Ibiza 1.4 SXE 3d (2001/X) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Good second hand - I've got a fairly new car for approx 1/2 of what it cost from the dealer, when it was brand new.
Costs
Not had any major repairs yet! I think a new front bumper (late spec) is about £60, which is very reasonable.

On the road
Driving
Handles superbly, but the gear change can sometimes be tempermental!
Performance
1400cc and only 60bhp? A 1200cc Fiat Punto has 80 to 85BHP. Smaller engine, more power... Where's the power from the extra 200cc gone? Or the difference of 20BHP (which is a lot!)...?

Living with it
Reliability
No problems so far...I hope!
Image
Phat, chunky shape. I've put 16" alloys on mine, and the GTi/TDi/Cupra front splitter. Simple little things can make the car look very smart. Good as standard, but I love modified cars!
Comfort
Seats in the Seat are good. Nice and supportive. Lots of black plastic, but the same can be said about most cars, these days.

Security and Service
Security
Not sure about this one... I'm meant to have remote central locking, according to the spec sheet on this site. And an immobiliser. I shall be having words with the dealership!
Service
They seem to be telling porkies about the spec of my car, and they've broken bits off mine, and are meant to be replacing them - "parts on order" Hmmm.....?!

Problems and Ownership
Problems
Engine
Pants power, but I expect the air filter and exhaust are strangling the engine's performance.
Other
Standard speakers and head unit are good quality - but I still replaced them, and added a subwoofer!
