SEAT Leon FR (2006 - 2012) 2.0 TSI FR+ 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
Ignore whoever said this car is a 2005 Golf GTI (i.e. EA113 engines @197bhp)! No, this is a 2009 EA888 engine (Audi designed @208bhp) and 2009 FR+ is definitely faster than the old model (even cylinder block is much lighter). This means it has a "timing chain" (not rubber belt) and lots of Audi's parts / design in this car, even wheel hubs are stamped with the Audi logo! DSG is not fast. Paddle gear shifter eases pain of not having manual (ideal if share car with wife). Ergonomics? debatable! I mean why the heck do u put GPS in the lower console! SEAT compensates that with GPS mini info on speedo dash. It has Audi/VW heritage of "smartness", like remote+local folding wing mirrors, rain sensor, auto head lamps, "follow me home" lamps, "find me" lamps, bluetooth phone pairing (works with Whatsapp on Android) and more more more.
Surprisingly, EA888 211bp engines are very easy to maintain! Even its oil filter is on the top side of engine rather than underneath, although front brake pads + others may need more tools. My car is only 4 years old and so "wait and see"!
Tyres and parts are cheaper than my previous Japanese brand car --- A benefit of being a mass produced car. Loads of maintenance videos can be found on YouTube, too.
A great purchase if you just want a Golf GTI spec without the price premium and name! Still, worth it!
