SEAT Leon Hatchback 1.8 20V T Cupra 5d (2003/03) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Everything you could want comes as standard. Cracking pace and individual style for so little money. Golfs...who needs 'em?
Costs
MPG depends on driving style, but is acceptable considering the performance you get. Insurance under £300 for me and missus (yes really).

On the road
Driving
Refined and solid at (high) speed but still capable of raising a smile on b-roads. Not a focused hot hatch like some others, but I reckon that makes it all the more versatile. Docile or manic - the choice is yours.
Performance
1st is a bit weedy but acceleration in every other gear is relentless. Sometimes feel a bit sorry for those smug looking BMW drivers when they have the smirk wiped off their faces. On second thoughts, no I don't.

Living with it
Reliability
Had it from new (June '03) and nothing's gone wrong so far. Touch wood.
Image
Badge snobs sneer, but who cares? Some like to be seen in a performance car, others prefer to drive one...
Comfort
Never sat in the back so couldn't comment, but can't complain about the front seats. Long motorway hauls are a breeze and the creature comforts on board make (almost) every journey a pleasure.

Security and Service
Security
Still got it. Security should be Thatcham approved for a car of this type.
Service
Local dealer moved premises without letting me know! Twice!
