Ecomatic is great for economy 700+ miles on a 50L tank; zero tax.
Long gearing makes for easy cruising and stable to drive in all conditions.
Estate is spacious and seats fold easily from boot or car.
Very reliable overall.
I considered Passat, Mondeo Octavia when buying but don't regret buying this one. Great all round car and much better built than any Ford. Pity they stopped making the Ecomatic / diesel in the new model Leon estate. Otherwise I'd buy another.
How reliable do you find the car?
Water pump failed at just over 3 years old, under 50k miles was disappointing. Dealer fixed for £140 very good considering the labour costs alone. It's not uncommon among VW cars and was better deals with than many. Everything else great. E.g. brakes lasted over 90k miles.About their car
