Should you buy one?

At the moment, the answer cannot be definitive. This is an early drive of an unfinished product, so telling you categorically to buy one would be an act of gross misconduct on our part. But, if you’re going to be buying a mid-sized family SUV, and fancy going electric, hold your horses if you can until the Elroq arrives.

Why? Well, from our experience so far, it’s looking positive. There are more dynamically engaging electric SUVs on the market, but they tend to trade fun behind the wheel for a firm, sometimes aggravating, ride. From what we’ve witnessed, the Elroq rides very nicely.

It’s also quiet and relaxing in other ways, so if you’re after something easy to live with – something inoffensive and a good all-rounder – this could be it.

There are roomier rivals out there, sure, whether we’re talking passenger space, boot space, or both. But here’s the thing: the Elroq’s practical enough. And chances are those roomier alternatives will cost you more.

And that’s the crux of it, right there. Price. Or, more broadly speaking, value for money. As long as Skoda delivers the Elroq at a competitive price, with the kind of toys people expect, the Elroq’s got real potential. Enough to challenge cars like the Renault Scenic? We’ll have to wait and see, but quite possibly.
