Skoda Fabia Estate (2008 - 2014) 1.2 TSI (105bhp) Monte Carlo 5d Owner Review

In their own words
Reasonable transport, is good for a young family and it's a Skoda so I don't mind the kids ruining it. The interior (as you might guess!) has survived everything thats been thrown at it apart from the boot cover randomly breaking itself (apparently a common fault!). Fairly relaxing to drive once I swapped the ridiculous 17" wheels for smaller ones. You can fit a family of four in it (as long as the kids are short). Spacious boot, add a roof box and it has tons of space. Mechanically it's fine so far.
Downsides: Our local dealer. Some corners have been cut too far; I'll probably get another SEAT next. Oh, and the fuel economy isn't great on the motorway (45mpg if you are lucky) and there's loads of wind noise above 50mph.
How reliable do you find the car?
Lots of little niggles in 30,000 miles (from 20k): * Parking sensors fitted by main dealer failed after 14 months - free fix refused despite the vehicle being under warranty (£100). * The fan speed resistor broke (warranty repair) * Started leaking oil after a Service (dealer denied any fault, but it was obviously their fault) * Boot cover latch broke after 6 months, and dealer tried to get us to pay for it (Skoda UK sorted them out that time!) * Rear brakes (drum ones like in the 80s!) squeal like a stuck pig when it's wet, and they've been "checked" (at cost).Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
Reasonable performance with great fuel economy up to 60mph (39-45mpg), great tech in the car (DAB, CD changer, Nav, digital display). I managed to get 50mpg out of it once (half hour trip stuck behind an old biddy at 45-50)About their car
