Skoda Fabia Estate (2015 - 2021) 1.2 TSI SE 5d Owner Review
Want to know everything there is to know about this car?
In their own words
I find the car easy and pleasant to drive but it wouldn't be without the sensors which aid reversing safely by giving a proximity diagram on the screen, as the rear vision is quite restricted and makes it difficult to judge close distances. Apart from when reversing visibility is otherwise good, provided, as with most cars, you realise the door mirrors are convex and make things look further away than they are - I suspect failure to realise that is why some drivers cut in rather too soon after overtaking me.
Although the car had done about 12,500 miles in 11months with a car hire firm before I bought it the only indication it was not new was the tyre wear and the mileage on the clock, so that augers well for how well the interior will wear in the future.
It is a pity that the rear seats when folded do not give a completely flat floor but that is the penalty for folding the seats being simply a matter of releasing the catches and folding in seconds with no need to move anything else. I was pleased that it came with a full sized spare wheel stowed completely out of the way below the boot floor (NB this is an option, costing extra when buying new) and there is room for warning triangle etc down there too.
Also pleasing and convenient is that the makers provide two large hooks for shopping bags and four metal anchorage loops in the boot, so one can prevent things sliding around when there are only a few things in it. Also small pockets at the sides.
I only selected the "...alright but check out the competition" option because I would always advise that, since there are a lot of good cars about and changes are frequent. Also, if rear seat space is important to you any "small" car (and even some "medium") is likely to be not entirely comfortable for long journeys with large passengers.
How reliable do you find the car?
Only real problem a failure of the windscreen washers caused by blown fuse but instead of a DIY 10 minute job I had to take it into the garage as the fuse table in the handbook is wrong (although Skoda insist it is right in spite of the evidence!!)Does the car do everything you expected it to do?
My test drive was on a more powerful model, so I was pleasantly surprised by the flexibility and power of this engine. Also, although, as on so many modern cars, I can't see the front of the bonnet, I have no trouble judging correctly where it is. Most of the electronic features are useful and the computer is no more prone to quirky behaviour than my desktop. I needed the estate to get the extra space for stuff I need to carry - it has just as much space for loads as my old (1998) Honda Civic.About their car
