Summary
What does this car say about you?
Don't know, don't care. Skoda enjoys a good reputation these days, at least amongst car buffs, so probably positive.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
My kids were amazed I'd bought a Skoda after years in BMWs and Mercedes.
Would you buy this car again and why?
No. It's a very good car but didn't suit me - I missed the power & torque of the bigger cars I've had over the years. I just couldn't get used to thrashing a small engine.
What are you likely to buy next?
A 2-litre turbo-diesel automatic.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchise
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£10,000
When did you buy the car?
August 2010
Did you get a good deal and why?
Not sure I got a good deal, after the usual ritual dance over the value of my trade-in, etc. etc.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
I was looking for a small automatic, likely to be economical (relatively) to do me now that I'd retired. Good spec, good value, decent reputation, etc.
What was the dealer like?
Typically modern experience, nice showroom, pleasant service, etc.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
Smooth, comfortable, fairly quiet, light steering, good visibility - but - engine struggles with auto gearbox (conventional torque converter) so it's a bit of a liability when overtaking or on a busy motorway. It's not very economical either - around 36mpg with mostly gentle driving.
What's it like to park?
Easy - good visibility and reverse parking sensors.

Living with it
