Summary
What does this car say about you?
I chose with my head over heart.
What do your friends / family / neighbours think of the car?
Friends think it is a bit like a VW Golf but less pretty.
Would you buy this car again and why?
Yes I will consider Skoda again for the low MPG.
What are you likely to buy next?
The choice of car will depend on whether I need it for work or not.

Buying experience
Type of dealer you bought from?
Franchised
Did you buy this car new?
No
What price did you pay?
£5,781
When did you buy the car?
April 2014
Did you get a good deal and why?
Yes - dealer threw in a cambelt service worth £300.
Is there any special reason why you bought this car?
Affordability - I do 9,000 business miles a year and I needed a reliable workhorse with a powerful engine for motorway miles, but lower running costs and MPG over 60.
What was the dealer like?
The dealer was very keen to sell me gap insurance.

Driving it
What's it like to drive?
At first I found the engine growl at low speeds and idling hard to bear. It flies on the motorway however and engine noise is quiet. Most important, it has surprisingly good torque when accelerating to overtake. The gearbox is a bit clunky and the gear knob is uncomfortable.
What's it like to park?
Straightforward because it is quite short.

Living with it
Have you had any problems with the car?
Nothing has gone wrong with it, but I have been driven round the bend by a dashboard rattle which I think comes from the glovebox door.
What's most practical about your car?
Miles per gallon. I regularly get 61-65 MPG which is better than advertised. On a long run I got as much as 73 MPG driving like a granny.
Favourite gadget, option or accessory?
Most delighted with the air conditioned glovebox to cool drinks and sandwiches.
