Skoda Favorit Hatchback 1.3 Forum 5d (1992/K) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Only cost me £390 with 25k miles on the clock and all the MOT certificates from new to prove the mileage, oh and full service record, new starter motor, 5 new tires and tax (2 months) MOT (7 months left from purchase).
Costs
See performance for changes; most changes were done by myself as my standard routine on a used car, spent around 120 in maintenance but I do buy good replacements. Bodys NO RUST except a small amount around the lock (driver's) that's been treated.

On the road
Driving
Light reactive stearing very good. Crap gearbox is like changing gears on a bus. Almost no modern features that I had on my 1989 Ford Fiesta. Feels like it belongs in Russia. Heats up fast though, so you're never cold.
Performance
With the engine flushed, oil changed (I used 4 stroke), new oil and air filters, new sparkplugs and new battery, car can easily beat those boy racers in Corsas, Fiestas and even Novas from the mark at the traffic lights but power tends to drop after 60mph

Living with it
Reliability
This thing started in minus 16 when we tested it in an industrial freezer and ran fine in the heatwave down south. Apart from the old battery it's never had a problem starting.
Image
Not too bad as mine came in perfect condition, but it's hardly street cred with its Brown interior and Ocean Blue paint job (barf); not forgetting the typography - some idiot replaced all the original text on the rear with, (fany txt) Typical of women!
Comfort
Very plush, comfy seats. Seatbelt webbing shoulder pad (Skoda branded) on all 4 main seats.

Security and Service
Security
Diabolical security unless you count the placement of the interior door handles as security. No one can find it to get out. (Add kill switch, immobiliser and alarm or remember no joyriders gonna nick a Skoda).
Service
Skoda dealers/mechanics all treat you like a family - they'll do anything to keep your car in good shape, have never ripped me off and always manage to get what I need, even though they're VW these days.
