Skoda Octavia Estate (1998 - 2005) 1.9 TDi Ambiente 5d Owner Review

I have to say that, pound for pound, this is probably the best car I have ever owned. I have nearly bought one a few times in the past but never quite found the right one. This time, I got out of a much more 'prestige' marque due to problems with that and had to get cheap transport in a hurry. This one was available and reasonably priced. Once I hade the back brakes sorted out (relatively inexpensive parts and easy to do and cleaned it out (previous owner had obviously had a pack of wild animals in the back) it has been fantastic - lovely smooth ride, reliable and extremely roomy and fuel economy up to nearly 70mpg on some trips but regularly high 50's. Not really had any problems, save for a flat tyre and, even though the wheels had not been off for a while, it was easy enough to change the wheel (for the very worn spare!) so no other issues and it even went through the last MOT with just a new ball joint (pair fitted, of course) required. My next car will most likely be a Skoda - either a newer Octavia or even a Superb.
