Skoda Octavia Hatchback 1.9 TDI GLX 5d (2000/W) Owner Review

Economy
Value
Nothing comes close - brand spanking new, stuffed with kit, warranty, free servicing and AA cover for the price of a mouldy old Passat in need of an MOT.
Costs
None so far apart from fuel, insurance, road tax. 55mpg helps a bit too.

On the road
Driving
Lacks the agility of an Elise in the tight, twisty stuff but otherwise it's comfortable and supremely stable, good fun to hurl about too.
Performance
Modest 90bhp doesn't reflect excellent mid range punch and effortless motorway cruising.
-
Living with it
Reliability
Brakes squeal slightly and boot lock went bust but it's been a paragon of reliability in every other respect.
Image
Only the ignorant would mock. People seem to think it's either a Passat, A4 or BMW. 'Nuff said.
Comfort
Firm seats and firm ride but try driving 500 miles in it and you arrive fresh as a daisy.

Security and Service
Security
Never had any break in attempts but it has won several security accolades - deadlocks, clutch mechanism in door locks to prevent forced entry, immobiliser and visible VIN.
Service
Can't speak highly enough of local Skoda dealer, West End Skoda in Broxburn. Efficient, friendly and helpful.
